You can’t escape the weather if you’re a window cleaner

“Pray don’t talk to me about the weather, Mr. Worthing. Whenever people talk to me about the weather, I always feel quite certain that they mean something else. And that makes me quite nervous” Oscar Wilde

Someone once said, “never change your plans because of the weather”. That certainly applies to me as a window cleaner.

The weather is an unavoidable topic when you are a window cleaner. We spend our lives outside, being pelted by rain (a certainty) or getting tanned by the sun (if only!). If we’re not experiencing the weather first hand we’re probably making small talk about it with our customers or passing Bristolians who see us out and about and stop for a chat.

We’ve been pelted by more than our fair share of this winter’s torrential rain, so we’ve spent most of our working day wandering around Bristol more than a little bit damp. Some of the team have managed to stay dryer than others depending on which wet weather gear they were wearing. George, an avid canoeist and sporting his canoe outfit whilst cleaning windows, probably wins the prize for ‘most ingeniously dressed for this winter’s weather’

But if this guy was on our team he’d probably win…

It was the first day of spring this week, so at least more sunny days should be just around the corner. Gazing at the early spring sunshine streaming through my window earlier today has highlighted my kids dirty little finger marks all over the glass… hmmm and I think they’ve been licking the glass too, well, at least I’m a window cleaner.
